Admit it.

We all have a list of books that we'll tackle "some day." Well . . . some day is here.

Hermes (Mercury)

Hermes (or the Roman equivalent, Mercury) is best known as the messenger of the gods of Olympus. The youngest of the Greek gods, Hermes is also the god of shepherds, merchants, land travlers, and theives.

The Homeric Hymn to Hermes describes the trickster god in more detail.

In the first chapter of Ulysses (pages 17 and 20), Buck Mulligan is compared with Mercury. This corresponds to the early role of Hermes/Mercury at the beginning of the Odyssey.
